Sensation

Watching and making: a specific question of cinema to discover and explore different parameters of cinema (choice of direction, sound, light, acting, editing and more), and resources to explore it in a teaching situation.

The sensation in question:

When going through a film, the spectator experiences different kinds of sensations which sometimes pass through a character or are directly addressed to them by the director.

Presentation of challenges

Nobuhiro Suwa is a director who also runs film education workshops. Here he presents his personal approach to the question of sensation, or how "you first feel things in a film without even understanding what they are."

A question / a sequence

Isabelle Bourdon is a film advisor at the French Ministry of Education. She analyses the focus given to sensations in the opening sequence of Claire Denis' film Beau Travail.
