Amarcord

Federico Fellini, Italy, France, 1973

Comment

Fellini’s film opens with snowflakes floating down from the trees, announcing the arrival of spring. These floating elements serve to introduce us to the features of the town, the setting, and some of its people, landing on them all without prejudice. We hear a strong wind, amplified for effect. The townsfolk welcome this sign with amiable humour, visually marking the end of winter.
