Snow is the very building block of this image. It’s as if there’s no horizon, no depth, as if the world were made entirely out of snow.

The absence of perspective renders the world flat and white, yet moving, where nothing is stable. The slow motion changes the gestures of the shepherds into those of cosmonauts in a state of weightlessness. They give a comical air to the way the men and sheep tumble down the hill and mix together. A subtitle tells us that ‘This is our world’, but the world found in the confines of the frame, is totally transformed by the snow, slow motion and point of view.
